I was going to save this til tomorrow, but I may not have the time - so I'll do it now. This was my entry to the Steampunk Myths and Legends challenge over at CGSociety. I liked this one, it fought back a bit, gave me all sorts of grief, but did so one spot at a time so that I could troubleshoot really easily and play a lot. It was a great vacation from stressful work.
I already see a few things I'd change were I to keep going... maybe for the print run. But for now, this one's good.
All photoshop 7. Probably a lil over 10 hours, not sure though. Lot of default brushes and a lot of grunge brushes.
Steampunk and legends in need of real revival, it's a lovely mix! Makes me wonder a bit what happened to the pumpkin headed idea, but that could just be a Disney idea.

The story of the headless horseman has so many different tales that it's hard to track down an original. It went back hundreds of years before even the ones most of us ever hear about (for example, the one Disney used).
Not quite sure what was all invented by Disney and what was a pre-existing tale, but there's certainly some unique takes on it. Was fun diving in and seeing where others have gone.

Mainstream attention? Pumpkin!
True original? Not likely.
That aside, a steampumpkin does have great appeal
