So, I've not done a fanart for about 2 years now... I figured maybe I could get away with one or two. I don't really enjoy fanart that much, but to be honest I want to give homage to the things that got me into fantasy illustration in the first place - among the list of things are these characters. With homage in mind instead of senseless fanart - I actually enjoyed this piece and looked forward to working on it.
And yeah, I'll still get the obligatory "Why paint Drizzt? he's so over done" comments, but y'know? I honestly don't care.... I'll always get the people who think that dark elf fanart is unoriginal. Oddly enough these are usually the same people who have little redeemable factors about their own work..... but here is hardly the place for that speech.
To those who actually do like fanart, here is Drizzt Do'Urden and Artemis Entreri of the well known RA Salvatore fantasy series through Wizards of The Coast. A few days worth of work, though with plenty of breaks. Put it all together and I could have done this in the better part of a day I imagine.
This was painted in Painter IX over a very( very) rough pencil sketch. I've not used the program for about half a year, so this was a nice way to stretch the fingers a lil
As a matter of confusion... HOW do you paint in Photoshop? I tried it a few days ago and I found it clunky compared to Paint Shop Pro (or even Flash MX) . . . It felt like trying to paint with a picture tube or something.
Ironically I put photoshop in out of habit, it was painter for this, though I use the same techniques so I can still answer this - it took me awhile to get comfortable with, but if you tinker with opacity and the hardness of the brush you can nail a fairly good painterly technique.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
